FELLOW FOX TROTTERS

Our Louisiana Chapter was well represented in our spring three-year-old futurity. Amber Lawson led the pack, placing in classes 2, 5, 11, 46, 48, 49, 50, 52, 54, 69, 72, and was Open Amateur Champion.

Daniel Smith placed in classes 15, 23, 34, 36, and 40.

Deborah Facello placed in classes 60, 61, and 75, while Lynn Dousay placed in classes 40 and 82. Congratulations to all our contestants on a job well done!

Hope to see everyone at the Nick Cox ride.

Thanks,
Jim Sullivan

FROM THE PRESIDENT

Fellow Fox Trotters

We held our club meeting in Bastrop at the office of Jimmy & Peggy Christmas and the refreshments and fellowship were enjoyed by all. We discussed our Nick Cox Ride and confirmed the September 16th weekend. Our trail bosses will be Charlie Cox and Clellie Batson. There will be an organized ride on Friday and Saturday (Sept 17-18). Anyone needing RV camping space should make reservations through the park management. Jimmy & Peggy have always put forth lots of effort in seeing to the food and entertainment which has always been enjoyed by all.

We enjoyed a tour by Jimmy Christmas and Buddy Savage of the new Bastrop facility known as "The Mac." It is quite impressive and should provide a lot of enjoyment for the community for years to come. They had all hoped to have the grand opening during the week of the Nick Cox Ride; however, some equipment delays have postponed this until October 15. Buddy Savage indicated the grand opening celebration will begin October 15th with City and State officials handling the ribbon cutting ceremonies. There will be entertainment and a "Big Cooking" that Friday, followed by Saturday bull riding or rodeo. Jimmy and Buddy are still working out the Saturday details of other breed participation and entertainment. Sunday will finalize the weekend with Cowboy Church and gospel music.

There will be no official La Fox trotter club participation at this opening; however, we hope to enjoy many get-togethers at the facility in the future. Jimmy and Buddy welcome any help from club members in helping make this opening an impressive one. Please contact Buddy or Jimmy if you can assist them.

Buddy covered their advertisement package called "Friends of The Mac" with family as well as corporate packages available. The arena daily rental fee is $400 with stall rent $15 (shavings extra) and overnight RV spaces with water and electric are $25.

Buddy and Jimmy have spent countless hours in securing this facility, along with others in the Bastrop area and we need to support this any way we can. I see this as a big lift for our fox trotter club with the location being so close to the Chemin-A-Haut State Park. This can be an opportunity to spark an interest in our shows and play days and trail rides.

Hope to see you at the Nick Cox Ride.

Thanks,
Jim Sullivan

FROM THE PRESIDENT

Fellow Fox Trotters

The hot days of summer are on us and the rains have been spotted in our area. Some are fortunate and some are not. The next scheduled local event is in Bastrop at the Nick Cox ride.

The Bastrop members hope to have their opening of the new arena at the time of our ride. There will be a meeting in Bastrop on July 13th Tuesday at 6:00 p.m. (We are going to try to shoot for 5 if we can) at Jimmy Christmas' office. He and Buddy Savage will give all attending a tour of the new facility and discuss plans for any involvement in the opening for our club. We hope to see you at the meeting; however, if unable to attend we will get the info to you as to our club's involvement.

We scheduled the meeting at 6:00; however, it would be great if we could be there by 5:00. We will have a late snack and have our tour by Jimmy and Buddy.

We lost another fox trotter member this last month in Mr. Jerry Stutts. Our hearts go out to his family and our club sent flowers. A real nice "thank you" was sent to our club from the family.

Be thankful for all we have and enjoy the life God has given us. Love your family and be thankful for your friends.

Hope to see you soon
Jim Sullivan
